Tmall Announces a Strategic Partnership With Clothing Giant VF

Tmall, China’s largest business to consumer (B2C) platform owned by Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA), announced it landed a strategic partnership with VF Corporation (NYSE: VFC) on June 13.

Alibaba said the aim of the partnership is to expand the global leader’s offerings of branded lifestyle apparel, footwear, and accessories in China.


VF’s subsidiary companies include the well-known brands Vans, The North Face, Timberland, Dickies, and Kipling, which all have their own online store in Tmall.

The flagship Tmall store of footwear company Vans opened in 2011and has accumulated more than 10 million followers.

Liu Bo, general manager of Alibaba’s marketing platform business said, “With Tmall’s unparalleled customer insights, strong technical support and in-depth market knowledge, we are eager to work with the world’s leading companies to help them bring their best products into the China market in the most-effective and efficient way.”

Liu added, “Through our partnership with VF, we are committed to helping VF create products that can precisely match the appetite of the Chinese consumer.”

According to the 2018 financial report of VF, it reported a 10 percent increase in revenue from overseas, attributed to a strong growth of 22 percent in China.

“We’re very excited to partner with TMIC to further unleash the power of consumer insights and analytics,” said David Wagner, executive vice president of global strategy and growth platforms at VF.

Tmall currently has 721 million mobile users and VF will use big data and analytics to develop innovative marketing strategies to meet the needs of Chinese consumers.
